Conscious Sedation

Patient is awake but in a reduced state of awareness. Pain relief and relaxation are provided. Patient can respond to verbal commands but may have little memory of the procedure. Breathing remains independent, meaning there is no need for a ventilator.

General Anaesthesia

Definition: A medically induced state of unconsciousness where the patient is completely unresponsive to stimuli. Effect: Patient is fully asleep, has no awareness, no pain, and no memory of the procedure. Breathing: Requires airway support (e.g., intubation or laryngeal mask airway) because natural breathing may be suppressed.
